I wouldn't put my family around the chemicals. Try this, I've used one for years and it works great if you follow the directions.

I would say no because attics usually aren't ventilated as well as the rest of the house and you might have lingering poison in your duct work, etc. We had a family of mice in our attic a few years ago and we tried the regular traps and they were CRAP, then we tried those sticky glue traps and that did the trick. We put some up in the attic and some down in the garage near where we kept the dog food (that's what they were eating...) and every morning we would find a few stuck to the traps and you just pick the traps up and chuck them in the trash cart. It only took about 2 weeks to get them all. And the traps are really cheap at Walmart (they're 4 for about $5). We only went thru a couple of boxes of them. If you use traps it's better for your health because you're not putting toxins in your home.

My brother in law owns a farm so they get mice quite often, they sell traps that are animal friendly. My sister gets them at Walmart. They are a plastic box that you put a treat inside the door only opens one way, once they are in there they can not get out. Which allows you to set them free in a better area away from your home.

the mice are going to flee the attic- later come back unless they are trapped best thing is to use poison bait

Yes. But there could be side effects. The poison that you use (depending on what type you use) could leak through the ceiling and contaminate the house
