Or is it invasion of privacy? My sister-in-law received a flyer w/ the pedophiler's name and address who lives about 1 block from her. Is that legal? I'm glad they handed out flyers but was wondering if that was constitutionally right.

It's legal IF everything on the flier is factually accurate.
Since people often use terms - especially medical or legal terms that have very specific meanings - in a way that isn't their full true meaning, it's easy to trip up.
For example... a man moved into a neighborhood who was a registered sex offender. His crime had been having sex with a 13 year old girl.
A neighbor handed out fliers identifying him as a pedophile. He sued her, and won. "Pedophile" is a term that specifically means a person with a sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. The 13 year old he had sex with was clearly not pre-pubescent.
Had she handed out fliers that said "He had sex with a 13 year old girl" she'd have been in the clear, because truth is an absolute defense. However, she said "He's a pedophile" and he wasn't, even though many, many people misuse the term pedophile to refer to anyone who has sex with someone under 18.

no, don't do it, absolutely not. while it might feel good and even fun and funny at first, it will come back to haunt you later. figure it this way, karma has a way of repaying deeds both good and bad. so far you have done nothing wrong, but the flyer thing will send waves of bad karma back in your direction and also put the possibility of you ever getting back with your husband never an option. look, he's a guy, guys do stupid stuff for physical reasons and then later regret it. she's only a kid, she has no clue what she's doing or why she's doing it. so they are both stupid, acting irresponsibly. you have the higher moral ground. keep it that way. do not lower yourself to acts of slander or libel or littering just to feel some justice. justice will be well served later, when karma comes back to bite your husband and his little missy in the butt. hold your head up high and act like a lady. you can and will love again. you might even get your husband back, but if you do this silly thing, you will look like a demented person. be a lady. let karma work it's magic and go on with your life knowing you are blameless.

I don't see why it should be you can find them out on the Internet and there are flyers sent out in the mail....i got one in the mail about a paedophile living a few blocks away.

Most pedophile information is a public record available on a website at state level. If they stick to the information there, it's fine.

There is no law against it, it is free speech and is protected under the constitution.
To David above, she asked if it was legal to do it, which it is, and not about the implications should she slander anyone.

It is as they say really rocky ground. If ANYTHING is incorrect or was obtained illegally, the person that created the flyer could be sued.

My opinion is they gave up their rights when they did it and the information IS publicly available. I purposefully bought a house less than a block from 2 daycares and a school so I would not have to worry about it:)

They are required to register with the state...so no it isn't illegal, it is public information which you can find on websites.
