I would imagine so, a pilot is the first episode of a tv series they produce to show to the network and to veiwers to see if people will like it.

Yes! Not all 1st episodes are called pilot, but they stayed with the generic name.

yes the Pilot is the first episode, but it is usually numbered as (1.00) but gossip girl is numbered (1.01) for the pilot so be careful!
