I've noticed the same thing, living in PA. I have not seen any bugs to make me think that's the problem. Someone once mentioned (for my whites) that I could be using too much bleach and it is eating away at it.
Also, when I used to live with my mom, she had a bad dryer and it would put holes in my clothes. The clothes would for some reason get stuck in the dryer.
Could be either of those.

This happened to me a few years ago.
It turned out to be the dryer was wearing out and a gap had formed between the drum and the body of the dryer. My cloths were getting pinched in the gap and it was making little tear holes.
We got a new dryer and this stopped the mysterious holes.

Did you spill any acid on them?... The reason could be that the washer you are using is not great or the laundry detergent is to harsh. Your clothes could just be getting old. Try cleaning the washer out, there might be something in there that is hurting your clothes.

Make sure your washing machine completely rinses out the bleach. I made that mistake once and it put holes in my favorite tank top.

You may have moths.
Look carefully around to see if there are clusters of them flying about, especially when the lights are on. You may need to call in someone to get rid of them properly.

HOw often do you wash them? Washing them more often causes them to have friction fromt he washing and it wears the fabric down. Also if you wash them in bleach alot that will do it too.
