~When agencies in other countries operate like the CIA, we call them secret police and condemn them with great vigor and rancor. Reading some of the declassified CIA documents is scary enough - one shudders to think what is in the stuff that has been locked away or shredded. They will beat their breasts over some great accomplishment like the coup in Iran in 1953 the put the Shah back on the Peacock Throne (Operation TP/Ajax) or the coup in Argentina that, with the help of that bloodthirsty killer Anastasio Somoza, deposed the democratic government Jacobo Árbenz Guzmán (Guatemala) via Operation PBSUCCESS/Operation PBFORTUNE in 1954, which put the paranoid murdering fascist Castillo Armas in power. On the other hand, when their own intelligence estimates confirm that an operation is doomed to fail (and when they know the other side has knowledge of not only the plan but the date and location of the strike) but they go forward anyway in an attempt to force a President into starting a war (The Bay of Pigs: Operation Zapata, Operation Mongoose) they pass the buck on the president from whom they concealed such vital information and blame him for the failure.

Not to worry. The President and Congress are often left out of the loop, too. The Company is a law onto itself and has acted as such since the days of William J. "Wild Bill" Donovan and the OSS. It is little wonder that Bobby Kennedy believed the CIA had a hand in his brother's assassination.
