I didnt realize there was a difference between signing the back and signing the front when writing checks. Now i sent it out and its too late to change it. Will they still penalize me for it? Or Will they just send the check back to me and tell me to write another one with no repercussions even if its already past the payment deadline? Its a big ticket and i dont know if they'll send the check back in time before the deadline. What can i do?

and IS there a difference between signing the back and signing the front? I thought it was both the same.

Call the office that issued the ticket. An unsigned check is waste paper. Send them another one ASAP. ASsume you are going to pay an additional fine.

FIY; signing a check authorizes payment with it as an instrument; ENDORSING the back permits it to be cashed or deposited. World of difference

Since I don't know who "they" are I have no basis for answering your question. Here is a solution to your problem: Call them. Ask them. They will know. Maybe you can drive down there and sign the check.

Call the clerk of the court and explain your mistake. They will explain what you can do. I doubt you'll be in any legal trouble-- they'll just assess you late fees.
