Im sorry but I think its sad you are planning a epidural at 4 months pregnant.. Ive read some questions and saying its better that contractions bla bla .. Why is it woman these days automatically opt for the epidural as they think its going to be a easier labour ?? im sorry but I have had 3 natural births and if you can stay in control and relax and practice everything you have been taught you CAN have a labour without a epidural ! Just think how all our mothers and granmothers gave birth , they didnt have that option !
I know its your personal choice but atleast go in there giving it a go and use that option when your in labour not a 4 months pregnant scarring the **** out of yourself ! There are alot of risks getting aepidural and maybe you should weigh all that up before deciding .. I will NOT have one this time around also :)

At that point you could care less...
When I got mine I was in so much pain that I honestly didn't feel it go in and I didn't know that they left it in you like and IV until they took it. If anything it's just a pinch, like any other shot. I didn't see the needle so I really don't know how big it is but that is the last thing on your mind.
I have to be honest though; I am pregnant with #2 and although the labor was intense I am so excited to see the baby for the first time. It's the most amazing feeling that all the pain in the world is gone... I am so excited to give birth again!
All I can say is relax and just watch the monitor so you know when the contraction is coming and when it's leaving.... Good Luck

An epidural isnt bad at all. I ended up having csections with both children and had 2 spinal taps. The epidural was easy but the spinal just feels like alot of pressure for a few seconds. It wasnt that bad for me. Everyone's body is different. I know how it is-with my first you always wonder how your labor is going to go, what could happen. Some can have a baby with no drugs, some need it...all depends. I wouldnt be scared about it

Don't PLAN on anything for your labor -- with my first I thought I wanted an epidural, but the anesthesiologist didn't show up in time (after being beeped 3 times and called twice). Mine was natural birth. With the second, I just went with natural and the nurse told me that an epidural would have actually made my labor longer. Everyone has a different experience, just relax and take it as it comes. You certainly don't need to be stressing now. RELAX, BREATHE -- yeah, get used to those words.

I'm deathly afraid of needles and I have had 3 children by cesarean. That means I've had one epidural and two spinals. The epidural (and the spinal for that matter) is no big deal. It feels like a pinch on your back and then it's over. You feel so much better afterward. For me, I was in so much pain when I was in labor with my first that I didn't care what the epidural was going to feel like. I figured anything was better than labor pain. You'll be okay. It really isn't that big a deal.

OK, here's the deal: if you are overweight, the epidural will take a long time to put in. It hurts. Honestly. And, they have to stop doing it each and every time you have a contraction, so it can take a while that way too. BUT, once it's in, you feel absolutely nothing, and you will forget the pain. I would be even more scared to give birth without one, though! Trust me, by the time you are ready to have the baby, you will have been poked and prodded so many times that you won't be scared anymore. Good luck, and you'll be fine! I have spoken to people that had a really easy time of it. Either way, you're gonna be just fine. You're gonna be a big brave mommy! =)

First, Congratulations!!
As for the epidural, chances are that before you get the shot you'll have experienced a few (or more) contractions. Honesty, the shot is just a pinch, just like when you give blood or get any regular shot. The only difference is that it lasts a bit longer and is in your back and you must remain still (a nurse helps with that). It's not really something to fear. The relief from the contractions is usually enough incentive to deal with the pinch.
Blessings to you.

The injection of the epidural will be MUCH LESS painful than the contractions without it. Don't be scared... if you don't like the idea of the epidural, don't get it. A lot of women choose to not get it, but regret it and by the time they decide they want it, they are too far dilated.

Honestly, mine hurt. I think a lot of mine though was the mental anxiety I had before the procedure. The epidural didn't work for me though so I think the doctor that performed it didn't do it correctily. I was scared about my delivery also but it all turned out very well and I have a beautiful child as a result!

I know exactly how you feel. I was against having an epidural until I knew I had to have one with my second pregnancy. I found as long as I did not see the needle that they were going to use then I was fine. It really does not hurt any more than having to have a neddle in your arm or leg. Have positive thoughts about it and it wont hurt any more. The more you worry about it the more it will hurt.
Good luck & hope it all works out for you.
