It varies from woman to woman, but most females ovulate approximately 10-16 days before their period is expected. The best way to detect ovulation is by charting your temperatures or by using an ovulation predictor kit (available at drug stores, Walmart, Target, etc.) More information on charting is available at www.fertilityfriend.com. Good luck!

You can't calculate it.
What biology has taught us is that (assuming pregnancy has not occured) that a woman will start her period 14 days after she ovulates. (In other words, even if your cycle is irregular, it's still 14 days between ovulation and AF).
Now for women that have regular 28 day cycles, that means they ovulate 14 days into their cycle (i.e. they ovulate 14 days after the start of their period).
But for women that have variable cycles, you can't calculate when they ovulate. The only thing you can do is use an ovulation predictor kit (works sort of like an HPT, but it's trying to detect the hormones that usually surge just before ovulation rather than the hormones that indicate you're pregnant).

Its complicated and is not an exact science. Its usually the middle of your cycle and the woman has to know how many days her cycle is because it can be anywhere from 28-34 days and the beginning of it starts at the first day of her period and she typically ovulates in the middle but a woman can get pregnant up to 3 days before ovulation and then the actual day of ovulation so if you are trying to not get a chick pregnant your best bet is just to use protection and not rely on that.

A woman's monthly cycle is measured from the first day of her menstrual period until the first day of her next period. On average, a woman's cycle normally is between 28-32 days, but some women may have much shorter cycles or much longer ones. Ovulation can be calculated by starting with the day the last menstrual period (LMP) starts or by calculating 12-16 days from the next expected period. Most women ovulate anywhere between Day 11 - Day 21 of their cycle, counting from the first day of the LMP.
