When it is behind the net or towards the corner on a non-offsides rink? For that matter how often do you chase the puck on a Roller rink? I find that the puck tends to stay put anyway so I rarely chase it. Besides we are on a non-offsides rink. They can dump it to a guy just waiting for it.

Edit 1: Ming they don't even have to chase it that much. That's why I perform better on Ice anyway besides that fact that I can play the puck and that there is off-sides.

Edit 2:
Brewerefan. yes I agree, on ice hockey with the offsides you can make sure to play the puck. Besides it moves fast on ice and rims around the back. On Roller, it just stays put. Some take advantage of that and shot the puck to bounce it off the back boards for some forward to just nick it in. I rather play ice any day.

It depends, for me.

If I can play the puck from my zone back up the floor to keep my guys from having to come all the way back, I will. However, naturally if they have a guy planted down there with me, I stay put.

You have to asses where the opponents are, and how quickly they can close on you, and where your back guys are.

You have to think quickly on your feet, sometimes making a play up the floor before the other team realizes it will lead to a few goals....

I'm a former ice hockey player (minor league) and I always prefered when I had a puck handling goaltender. As a defenseman, you never know for sure on a rim around if the puck is going to go straight or deflect out into or near the slot. Even if it goes cleanly, you often have to carry or pass the puck back behind the net, and any time in your zone isn't good time. If the goalie can manage to stop the puck for you, you can set up the breakout quickly and efficiently. Someone mentioned that the puck stops on its own in roller hockey, so that would be different.
