you're brain is not retaining anything because you're body is on shut down mode. You need to take a break when this happens and do some excercise, eat some brain food(healthy foods not greasy, fatty foods) or even take a nap if you need it. When you keep pounding information into your brain when it is not retaining it, you;re just making your body more tired. The excercise thing really works, It gets your blood flowing and revitalizes the body. also, things like ginseng will recharge your brain and help you while studying. Hope this helps. Definitely stop when this happens though. you;re turning your wheels with no benefit.

First, find a quiet place to read. Have a nice drink, clean glasses, comfy chair or sofa or bed.
Take a big white index card. Hold it below the line you're reading, hiding the other lines. When you finish one line, move the card to the next line. Take your time; there's no rush. Think about what you just read, and before you move to the next sentence, be sure you understand what you've already read. If it's a text book, restate what you just read before moving on. If it's a novel, "daydream" the scene you just read.
But I wonder...reading things over, can't remember what you read, wrong lines, skipping words...these are classic indicators of dyslexia. Maybe you could ask one of your teachers how you could get tested at school for learning disabilities. I wonder if you also have trouble writing sentences out, or spelling. More suggestions of learning disabilities. Your school may have a resource program to help you whether you have LDs or not. Talk to a teacher or counselor about this.

Read only a few paragraphs at a time. Jot down notes and try to give a brief summary. It will capture the important facts and you rehearse the notes several times. This usually helps with difficult subjects. Take a 2 hour break when you get too tired.

Try reading very slowly out loud when you are alone. Think about what you are reading. When you find yourself thinking about something else, stop and clear your mind and then start reading again. One of the best ways to practice your reading, is to read more. Good luck.

To become a better reader you should start off with a children's book until you get the hang of it and then work your way up to the harder books.
