I have a student visa card with 1500 credit limit, and the limit cannot be increased. I want to buy an lcd tv which most likely will cost over 1500 (i want to spend at most $2000 tax included). Is there any way to make the purchase possible with visa? for example, leave the visa balance below 0 before hand, would it work?

Thank you,

Andrew

I need to make the purchase online through a major retailer (so paypal is not accepted). And my visa does contain a clause that doubles manufactoring warranty. So please help with this in consideration (visa pay only).

Thank you again

I'm a student but I do co-op, so I have almost 5 digit savings in my chequing and saving accounts, and I can pay off the debt immediately after purchase. Thanks again and please help with the real issue (credit limit).

See if you can get a debit card from your bank that is associated with your checking account. Be sure the debit card will have a Visa or Mastercard logo. You can then use this card just like a credit card, except that the money comes directly out of your account versus getting billed at the end of the month.

Dude, save the money, or buy a cheaper tv. There is a reason they only give you 1500 credit. Some stores allow you to use two forms of payment so if you have 500 cash, you could use a visa for the rest.

On top of that, I highly recommend against using the credit card. Credit card companies have rules that you don't get to read. It says they can adjust your apr, but they don't tell you how much. IF you miss ONE payment, your APR can go above 30%. That means that if you miss a payment and have that happen to you (like it did me) you will have about 30 dollars (assuming a 1500 dollar ballance) just in interest every month! That is bad news. Check the Sunday flyers, I regularly see 42 inch tv's for 1200 dollars or less, and they are all very good quality.

I would never carry a balance on a credit card, no matter what my interest rate was. Odds are terms could change unexpectedly. Incidentally, I have a $5,000 limit on my card and have never even come close to hitting it (in fact, I rarely put more than $800 on it and I use it for just about everything). It really doesn't take that much self control to not spend more than you can afford to pay off at the end of the month.

A lot of department stores will allow two payments at once; cash & check, cash & credit card, check & credit card,...As long as you have extra cash in your bank, at least $600, you should be fine. I don't think your credit card company will allow you to charge the whole $1,500 at once. Most likely, you'll need to have a $0 balance on your card to purchase this tv. Also, if you don't have any savings, you may want to either buy the tv later or buy a smaller size.

I don't think you're ready to purchase a $2,000 tv when you don't even have the money in the first place. You can't pay a $2,000 with a $1,500 limit credit card. This is common sense.

well if you really have a 5 figure amount in your bank account why are you wanting to max out your credit card? That makes no sense at all.. stay away from credit cards and don't become a debt slave.

If you can't pay right now, how are you going to pay it in the future? At 20% interest, the $1500 tv could cost you as much as $3000! over a few years of paying it off.

You couldn't be a Math student.

If you are in college or God Forbid High School, you DO NOT NEED TO SPEND TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A TELEVISION SET,. That is not even slightly smart.

You need to study and get through school, it will cost enough.
If you actually go to classes and study, you should not have enough time to watch much of any Television. Use the card to pay for classes and books, they cost a lot.

I am so sorry for your parents, I hope they never bail you out.
You are asking for serious trouble.
