I live in New York and it is rumored that the man who just moved next door was fired from his job because he was caught looking and child pornography on the internet. I do not know where he used to work so i have no way of finding out if it's true. If it is true, wouldn't he have been punished in some way in court? Do you know what the typical punishment is for looking at child pornography? Is there a way to find out if he was punished? i've already checked the sex offender registry and he's not on it. Thanks!

Ok, to those of you who are suggesting that I am being unfair to my neighbor:
1. I am not assuming anything. I am trying to find out whether the rumor is true.
2. I have a 3-year-old. Of course I am going to be careful about something like this until I find out otherwise. It's much better to err on the side of caution.

3. I don't wnat to know whether you think he was charged or turned in by his employer. I want to know what the punishment would have been if he was.

They are looking not touching how can this be a crime we see and look at things all the time. The ones that should be punished are the ones that do the touching and filming of such things. They should not be punished for looking it would be to the country's advantage to use those people to help find the ones that are doing it and put them behind bars. The police just try to ruin peoples lives because they cannot catch the real problem and put those people behind bars. The police set these guys up because they have there own sites and that is how they catch them looking. Then they put them in jail for five years because they looked the ones that need to go to jail are the ones making the videos and taking the picture not the lookers what is wrong with our country.

Chances are he didn't face criminal action. He could have just been fired--and that was the extent of it. Merely viewing pornography does not make one a sex offender. You have to commit a sexual assault in order to get there.

And relying on neighborhood rumors to judge a person is not a very good measure. How would you feel if you were judged by rumors?

If he's not on the sex offender registry, how do you know why he was supposed to have been fired? You and whoever told you this are not being fair to your neighbour. You have to ask him about this before you assume it's true. Looking at child pornography is a horrible crime and you must ask him if it's true.

His employer is probably not legally required to report him; he was probably let go for violating company policy. IF charges were filed, they would be with the county clerk's office in the county where the office is; check with them.

Rumor? Don't be too hasty in judgment on the basis of rumor. If he's not on the sex offender list, that says something. Don't kill this guy's reputation based on rumor!

He may have been fired for doing it because it was a violation of company policy. If the company did not report him to the police for the criminal violation that it also is, he may not have been prosecuted.

He would only be punished by law if the law knew about it.

It's quite possible that his bosses just fired him and never told the police.
