I had my annual PAP smear last week, and they called with the results today and told me I have a yeast infection. They're putting me on the normal medication for it. I don't feel any of the symptoms and I have never had one before to my knowledge. Since I didn't know I had a yeast infection, I have had unprotected sex a couple of times. Does this mean my boyfriend will get it from me or something? Is there anything else I should know?

Since I have apparently had this for over a week, wouldn't he have started showing symptoms or itching by now if he had gotten it?

The worst that will happen is that he might reinfect you. He should be treated as well with a topical cream (buy some jock itch stuff from the store and have him use it for as long as you are being treated).

Your sex partner needs trated also before you have any more unprotected sex. Yeast is not technically an STD because it can be gotten through non-sexual ways, but, it becomes a Sexually transmitted disease once you have it.

Eating lots of live culture yogert can help prevent yeast infections. In fact, it is common for women to get a yeast infection after taking an antibiotic. Yeast is an "opportunistic organism." It is always present on our body but is kept in check by other bacteria. When you take an antibiotic those helpful bacteria are killed by the medicine and yeast proliferate because of this. Live culture yogurt helps your body maintain the helpful bacteria that keep yeast in check!

While a yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted disease, it is possible to contract one through sexual relations. However, sex is an uncommon source of infection. Yeast infections are the result of an imbalance in the vaginal environment, which can have a variety of causes. If your partner has penile itching, redness, or discomfort, he should contact his physician. Your partner's physician should know you are treating yourself for a yeast infection so a precise diagnosis can be made.
In the meantime, use a condom.

Yes, the infection can be passed on to your partner. You shouldn't have sex until the infection is completely gone and your done with your medication. Best of luck.

You could have given the infection to him, and then you could get the infection again. He needs to be treated as well. Signs or no signs..

You can pass it to him, and he then can re-pass it to you. Ask your doctor what he can get so you don't keep passing it back and forth.
