Are you eating alone? If so, I wouldn't go overboard with the dinner. I hope that you have someone to share the holidays with though. Most Americans will probably cook a turkey or a ham for dinner. We usually have a ham on Christmas Eve and prime rib on Christmas Day. We sometimes have a pasta dish on the side because we are Italian. As for side dishes to go with the meat, we have mashed potatoes, corn and sometimes other vegetables (whatever everyone wants), gravy, dinner rolls, and the pasta dish(lasagne, spaghetti). We will have cheesecake for dessert. And we do a cheese/pepperoni platter, shrimp, chips and dip, Italian cookies, Christmas cookies for snacks. Usually have wine to drink and the kids get soda or juice. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Not everyone does turkey for Christmas here. Some people do ham. Where I'm going, we're doing roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
But my family always did turkey, with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sause (get the recipe from the bag of cranberries).
Although not standard, my brother makes my grandfather's shrimp salad.
And we have carrot salad (yummy!) and some sort of vegetable, like steamed brussel sprouts, green beans, or peas.
My mother used to also make candied yams, but we decided the meal was enough to eat without it.
Pumpkin pie and mincemeat pie for dessert (but I just eat pumpkin, myself).
It's a lot of work and a lot of food, so I hope you're having a lot of people over.
After a few hours, (we eat early on Christmas), my brothers would make turkey sandwiches. The rest of my family would do that the next day and the next, though I always make myself a hot plate of the original meal.
Then my mother uses the carcas to make soup.
The only really standard part is the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Since people here are from a lot of different cultures, and there are a lot of different regions of the country, different families have their own traditions for what else to have.
Actually, families have their own kinds of stuffing -- depending on their ancestry, so even that varies a LOT among Americans.

Feliz Navidad y prospero ano a usted tambien. This year my family wants ham, green beans, stuffing, dinner rolls and chocolate pie and pecan pie. American families have certain foods that are traditional for their families so start your own tradition. If you're having guests for dinner fix a Columbian dish for them too.

Turkey will do, but you don't really have to have a certain recipe to follow. Just make whatever tastes good and that you want to eat.
For my family, we like:
corn
mash potatoes
pies
hot chocolate with whipped cream
turkey
ham
chicken
salad
jello
good luck and merry christmas

Sounds good to me. Now in my adulthood and earlier my marriage chop up, i might want to have a good time on the twenty fifth it is popular in England. even if, my grandmother became Austrian and that's/became Austrian custom to grant Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. If memory serves that became the day "Kristkindle" might want to come and that became the special occasion at the same time as i became transforming into up. In a small yet unintended revert to previous kinfolk custom, transportation subject matters will forestall me from seeing my daughter on Christmas Day, even if, she is coming over on the twenty third and could be recieving her promises from my area of the kinfolk on Christmas Eve.
