Don't say never. There are not too many people like you out there and many more are needed. So many people will just walk away because "it's none of their business". If a man is shoving a woman out in public, you can only imagine what he can do to her when alone. I just recently started working at a police department and it's pretty sickening all the abuse that goes on. But then she's one of these that is used to the abuse, this is part of her life. It's sad but true, they feel they have no way out because either they have no family to go to or the abuser has threatened them in some way. It's really really sad, especially since there are usually children involved.
I would call the cops get a good description of the subject and victim and hopefully a vehicle. I wouldn't get involved physically because I'd probably get my a-- kicked in the process-----I'm a wimp.
Don't feel bad, you did something good here. Someday somebody will actually appreciate you for it.

If it was bad enough that you were compelled to jump in then you did the right thing. It might not seem like it right now, but eventually she'll come to see what a jerk he is and that you were trying to help her.
It's somewhat dangerous to intervene in this sort of thing, though, and good samaritans are sometimes injured. It might be best to call the authorities, report what you've seen and where and let them handle it. If a cop sees what's going on and puts a stop to it, it might cause the damsel to question her situation.

I was doing a delivery one night (kebabs) and when drove up by the customers house it was like all hell had broken loose. bats, sticks the lot. the customer had intervened like you did and saw the bloke off, but he came back with a car load of mates. The customer battered them all though and the woman was actually grateful. If it were me I would shout first something like 'you alright there, or do you need some help'. then I would probably call the police if it got out of hand. In my line of work you see all sorts of things happen when people are drunk and it is best to stay safely out of reach.

You did the right thing. I got involved in a situation like this in the French Quarter of New Orleans years ago and had the same sort of thing happen. The woman I was helping actually started defending the guy I was trying to stop.

Was going to once when I saw a guy pin his girlfriend up against the wall by her neck but my boyfriend told me to keep out of it. I really wanted to step in but now I think about it, the same thing would have probably happened there that happened to you. It's always the same, you try and help and you get made out to be the bad guy. Sad fact of life but at least you're a good enough person to have wanted to step in in the first place.

I heard a lady one night screaming as I was driving by a bank. I stopped and saw a man with his arms around her and she was struggling. Moments later the police arrived and arrested him. While he was still in the police car, she whipped out her cell phone and was calling people to bail him out!
I feel your pain, buddy, but I would still help a woman out. The one you ignore may be the one you read about in the obituaries. I couldn't live with myself had that happened.

I know what you mean. A friend of mine (a cop) responded to a domestic violence call, went back the next day to change the woman's locks for her. He was called back about 2 weeks later. She let the guy move back in and he almost killed her.
Great that you were trying to help though.

Yeah I tried to carry an elderly woman's groceries to her car for her and she called the security people and they cuffed me and put me on the sidewalk and called my mom. It was all sorted out though
That's sad how or world is now
People trying to do a good deed is out of the ordinary
And usually things out of the ordinary is bad, or wrong.
So we get in trouble for it
that sucks

You have just witnessed the battered woman syndrome. The victim will often turn on the rescuer to show her attacker that she "loves" him.
Next time, call the police. They may not know how to handle it effectively, and she may turn on them, but the violence will be stopped.
Peace.

It takes a lot to really anger me. If that woman had done that to me, I'd be seriously ticked off.
I take back my answer. Look at -tequila8+'s response for why something like this would happen. She's one of your last answerers.
