I use a mixture of vinegar and water. It is not harsh and it does not damage any type of screen. 70% water and 30% vinegar works great.
Make sure to use a soft cloth. A re-usable diaper is great for this as well as buffing wax off of your car without scratching it.

It really depends on the screen, if it is a CRT (looks like an old tv) then some isopropyl alcohol would work but be sure to not apply it directly to the screen and instead to the cloth. If you have an LCD (commonly refered to as a flat screen) then I suggest you just buy the stuff from the store and use it, they are awfully sensitive and you should also buy a special cloth for cleaning it.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

The best cleaner is right from your faucet !!!!
Use a very soft cotton cloth or a cloth made of micro-fiber.
I'm assuming you are attempting to clean a flat panel.
Most of the "dirt" you get on you monitor is coffee, or splash from a soda when you open it. Most of these soils are "water soluable".
DO NOT use any cleaners with a strong "soap", no alcohol, and absolutely no ammonia.
Simply use a clean soft cloth dampened with water.
Hope this helps.

I use Windex Wipes (glass and surface cleaner).
But this only cleans the glass and plastic case--it does not clean up the crazy stuff you put on the screen that you find on the internet... ;)

I either use alcohol on a cloth or those hand wipes you get from Swiss chalet with the cutlery. They are also great for cleaning your jewelry.
