No. I think it's a choice... Just like obesity.

...I'm assuming you spelled ignorance wrong for the sake of irony, right?...

Indeed. Indeed, some particular ignorance may be very contagious, and it can be used to cause great distress to many innocent people, to many sincere and glowing souls.

In fact the ignorance which is supported or imposed by some authority may have a greatly expanding and oftenmost nasty life of its own, if we choose to see it as a huge meme in the Dawkins way.

A funny friend of mine goes on repeating like a parrot that knowledge is limited while ignorance is infinite.

In an uneducated society.. yes. Because the uneducated and unwise fall easily pray to the rantings of the ignorant. And we have been trained to believe that the more people that believe something.. the more true it is... so once the group gains in size.. it is seen as truth by more and more.

Wisdom is the only true defense against this.. and is bread through education and/or life.

I don't like contagious - seems passive. I think ignorance has powerful influence. I've seen a group follow one person who "doesn't care about things like that" all nod along, terrified of being the one who gives a sh*t. They are choosing to be ignorant.

Yes, just like if one race is racist and full of hatred towards another. It is only going to make the other race full of hatred towards them right back. You can't expect people to erase the colorlines if you yourself are a racist. So Yes.

yeah. Since most of the teachers in our marvelous public school system are idiots. They have the ability to infect millions.

Is that where you caught your spelling affliction?

it's only contagious if those who should avoid it , willingly accept it, or, not seek the opposite of ignorance ( whatever that may be....knowledge??)

Hard to take you seriously when you can't even spell "ignorance" yourself.
