If know the person's religion I say Merry Christmas (if they are Christian). I have Jewish friends and say Happy Hannukah to them and they typically say Merry Christmas to me.

If greeting someone I do not know, I either say nothing about it or Happy holidays.

I say Merry Christmas if I know the person well and know that they celebrate Christmas.
If I don't know the person I may say Happy Holidays unless they say Merry Christmas first.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all (whichever you prefer) !

As a matter of fact, I say BOTH Merry Christmas AND Happy Holidays! They are both ways to express my holiday spirit! It just depends on who I am saying it to. Either way, I try to say both to the same person. I HOPE YOU HAVE HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sometimes Merry Christmas, most of the time nothing. I'm kind of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas.

If I know I am speaking to someone of a different religious background, such as my coworker who is Jewish, I say Happy Holidays. To everyone else I say Merry Christmas.
