The Christmas tree comes down, the house gets cleaned, and I can finally get to all the projects I have been putting off for a couple of months. Plus it will give me time to burn all the branches and debris from the ice storm.

It just seems like a new beginning, taking a deep breath after all the hustle of the holidays, sweeping out the old with a new broom. In January in Missouri I have new things blooming in my garden, Hellebores, winter jasmine and a pretty pink violet that only blooms in dead winter. And there are other bulbs coming up and blooming, if the weather is mild.

The only thing hanging over our heads in January is the threat of another ice storm. January is usually our month for bad weather here, and I am really always glad when it is over.

I can start on my Christmas cards and other Christmas crafts for 2008. Yes, it takes me all year. There is the getting in the mood to do it, planning my designs, getting the supplies, actually making the stuff (by then it's August or September), and the packing, mailing and/or giving. Yep, I truly have Christmas all year!

The best thing about January 2 is that I've got 364 days until I have to eat blackeyed peas again.

Wow, topcat must not be that old. He still does New Year's Eve parties and isn't dead yet! Those would kill me in a second. To me a New Year's Eve party is having a stiff drink and getting a good night's sleep!
