throwin_itdeep: Here's another black QB who was better than Doug Williams: Warren Moon.

I don't think Russell can step in and "save" the team right away. I think the most you can hope for is a performance like Roethlisberger gave in his first season: being effective on limited pass attempts, not saving the team, but not hurting it either. The Raiders will continue to improve though; they are only a few defensive linemen away from having one of the best defenses in the NFL. If they draft a top DT and find a better DE to start across from Burgess, I pity the opposing QB trying to throw into that fantastic young secondary.

NO! He will struggle next year. Next season he will be taking snaps for the first time as a starter, so he will have this huge learning curve. I would say that Josh McCown has been playing really well as the starter for the Raiders, so in fact the Raiders need a lot more than a QB. The Raiders will most likely be worse next year with Russell. That's not to say Russell won't have a great career, but maybe you should start looking towards the 2010 season.

Jesus H. Christ couldn't save the Raiders next season. They are horrific. Before you start saying they are less horrific than last year, look at their wins.

One: Miami. I could make a paraplegic team that could beat the Dolphins.

Two: Cleveland. NO D. Inconsistent. Raiders got lucky that they were on their nad week when they showed up.

Three: KC. Banged up, missing starters, and old. Yay you.

Four: Denver, the same Denver that was beat 41-3 at home. Nuff said.

Next year will be 6-10 at best, but I realistically expect another 4-12 year. That O-line needs fixing.

No. The Raiders biggest problem is it's owner/GM Al Davis.
The Raiders will not improve until Al Davis hires a real GM to rebuild and run that team properly.

Al just need to go back to writing checks.

Nothing can save the Raiders. They'll suck worse than they did this year.

sure... but it all depends on what he does in practice from now to then to prove that he is better than Daunte... a few more good receivers would be nice too

he might improve their record but won't save it...they need too many parts to go along with him.
