Several of the fellows above are correct, it's most likely the glo igniter in the oven chamber that's at fault. It's made of a ceramic material that for some reason cracks, after having been in use for several years. Once cracked, the proper electrical current can't flow back to the safety gas valve to allow the gas to come thru to the burner, consequently, it may seem as though the oven is trying to heat, but it will just be the heat from the glo plug you're feeling. Even if it's still glowing, 98% of the time that's the problem. They cost between $50 - $75 and aren't tough to install if you or a friend is moderately handy with some basic tools.

Make sure the pilot light is on (small gas flame that ignites the burner. If it is not burning, turn the gas off, let any gas diffuse from oven (15 min). If the pilot light is on, checkthe burner so see if it is clogged or corroded. If it is, clean, or have it cleaned, then try again. Many times there is a location on the thermostat dial that indicated "LIGHT), try this position for lighting. If you arfe the least bit unsure, call a maintenance person to check it out for you.

Its probably the "glow bar", it needs to be replaced.
The glow bar is pretty much a ignitor. The glow bar gets hot when you turn on the oven. Once it reaches a certain temp. it opens a valve to let gas into the burns. Which will then ignite.

Check the pilot or ignition source. DO NOT do this right after leaving the gas on for a while or if you smell gas. I think the newer ones have an electric ignitor. The gas will not flow unless the ignitor is hot (Ignitor may be broke).
