I work at a local retailer and every day at least half or more donot have a reciept then they want to yell @ complain even when they no the return policy, my thought is if ypu purchace was that important to begin with then you should put the reciept where you can find it. Keep you reciept , get agift reciect its not that hard,Pleasae dont take your frustrations out on the person at the service desk who is just trying to do thier job.

I see where you are coming from, but I would throw out the other side of that argument. Why is it becoming so difficult to return items? When there is a store tag, etc, what is the problem. Also, TEN DAYS for a check to clear in order to get cash back??? TEN DAYS!!! That is absurd. Money is moving faster these days, not slower.

Throw in this one. Costco refused cash back for 10 days on a check. My wife and I have been customers for over 10 years, and have NEVER had any negative issue with a check or anything there, and we spend thousands/year. Costco HAS ALL OF THAT INFORMATION ON EVER CUSTOMER.

Although one major thing I agree with you on. Do not yell at the cashier...get a manager.

Dfirefox...there is no way that a store could use a CC bill. They need an itemized receipt. The rest of your post has good ideas.

I completely AGREE... I work retail and it always amazes me how many people can't keep a piece of paper with important information on it IE a receipt.. The reason we NEED the receipt is to verify the purchase.. Nowadays there's too much FRAUD going on to trust everyone/anyone ! Besides, the receipt PROTECTS the customer and that he/she is getting the price that was PAID for the item and NOT a lower sale price.. My biggest GRIPE with shopping/returns is that some stores even if you have the receipt will credit it back to the original form of payment... So, if the item was a gift and it was paid by credit card then the purchase goes to the original credit card in some instances and NOT in the form of a merch. credit ! If you are unsure of the RETURN POLICY then do not shop that store ! I will NOT shop KMART anymore because my MIL as a gift bought my children some clothing she paid by credit card and when I had to make the "return" with the receipt the cashier would NOT issue me a merch. credit/cash or anything the purchase went back on my MIL's charge.. So... my children basically got screwed out of gifts... I also probably would've spent MORE then the merch. credit so as a result I do NOT shop at KMART ! I have a file especially at Christmas that I keep ALL my shopping receipts.. It's quick/easy and NO HASSLE... Good luck and excuse my RANT....

I agree with you and understand your frustration. Each dy I go through my wallet and take all the reciept s out and plce them in a folder. If I have purchased something and I find I need to return it for some reason, to the folder I go to get that reciept. It is 'easy peasey' This also helps when I balance the credit card statement.

I'd get upset if that happens to me, too. Let's think of it this way. The saying "the customer's always right" has its point in that if you project your frustration at the customer, the customer will probably make it worse on you. And heck, your superior might give you grief as well. In the future, if the customer projects his/her frustration on you, just smile and nod. In doing so, you not only make yourself feel better, the customer will probably like you more and will come back again. If you pretend that you're on your customer's side, you have a better relationship. I know I can get turned off if my server or the clerk gives me an attitude. I would be less likely to come back.

If they made the purchase by a credit card, which most people do,tell them if they don't have a receipt,go online with their credit card and print out the purchase order...that is sufficient proof of purchase at your establishment.
Make copies of the return policy and hand them out to people who don't have a receipt.
If you let one person get a return without a receipt, word will get out,and there will be mayhem.
Don't give in,stick to the company policy and don't fret over people who give you a hard time.
If they get out of hand, ask them to leave or step aside and tell them if they don't you will call security and do it with a smile.
Happy Holidays!

People get busy and then lose it. People forget where they put it. People throw it in the garbage by accident and don't realize it.
