Not quite sure myself. I was heading to 10,000 points, but the Top Contributor thing showed up at around 9,500. Here...I looked it up:

A Top Contributor is a member of the Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. Each Answers user can be a top contributor in up to three categories.

The top contributor badge is dynamic —you earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a particular category. The more actively you contribute, the more likely you will earn a badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to feature community members who might otherwise be overlooked.

just means you have answered lots of questions in one catagory and are a top contributor to that catagory. Or more than one catagory, sometimes.

If you are gone for a while and don't answer any questions, I guess they take that bar away

I have no idea. I can't make any sense out many of the YA guidelines. I had one of those orange badges at one time... for about a month, and then ... boom .... it was gone. Oh well, orange is not a good color for me.

Congratulations to all those here who have won their badge!

I'm not sure of the criteria. I just know sometime I have it, sometimes I don't. I was away on vacation for a few weeks and I notice mine's gone.

It does not count on your frequently used maximum suitable answer share, point, form of factors, or volume of time you spend on line. To get a real Contributor badge, you need to often spend time answering questions in a particular type. And giving solid solutions, no longer in basic terms any old answer. it quite is accessible to spend time answering questions in different categories, as long as you're partaking effectively in regardless of type you're wishing to earn a TC badge in. i could say you are able to answer sufficient so as which you usual a minimum of two-3 maximum suitable solutions an afternoon contained in the particular type. you apart from mght ought to maintain a undeniable share of your solutions in that type as maximum suitable solutions; the coolest extensive form isn't prevalent, yet is often believed to be a minimum of 10%, i could say this is in all probability approximately 15%. between the excuses that there are fairly some TCs contained in the Lesbian, gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered type is that there are lots of greater questions in that type than fairly some different categories, jointly with client Electronics > Land telephones or desktops & internet > Hardware > Scanners. i could say it is not too stressful in this type, I imply no offense yet there is fairly some non-extreme, off-subject count, and purely easy silly questions in this type; heck, even i used to be a real contributor in this type and that i'm no longer gay. Now one in a greater technical type, like technological know-how & arithmetic > Engineering, or client Electronics > TiVos & DVRs, calls for greater capacity, staying power, and technical expertise. TC badges are given on Monday morning, and do not forget approximately that the TC badge would properly be lost purely as relatively as this is gained in case you do no longer participate lots or in the journey that your solutions slip in high quality as quickly as you have the badge. you will properly be a TC in as much as 3 diverse categories at as quickly as (technically 4 yet in basic terms for one week, and in case you have been already a TC in 3 yet then earn your thank you to a 4th). So, in short, answer properly and answer in lots of situations. Shoot for 20-25 maximum suitable solutions each and every week contained in the particular type; answer each and every of the questions you be attentive to the solutions to, yet once you're actually not too confident which you be attentive to it, then do no longer answer. solid success!
