I Just had a miscarriage at 12 weeks along. I know that most likely its nothing I did to cause it and they are pretty common.
This was my first pregnancy. I do have somethings that I suspect could of done it. Do you think any of these things could of caused it?
1. Before I got pregnant I got diagnosed with Hpv because of abnormal papsmear and I have to have a colposcopy done to see if I have Cancer. I also had some Irregular periods.
2. Right before I miscarried I did fall going up some stairs at work, didnt land on my stomache though.
3. I had a bad yeast infection during my pregnancy and used over the counter monistat to treat it.
4. I also had a strept B infection in my urine and took amoxycillin to treat it.
Does it sound like any of these things could of caused my miscarriage? Also at 8 weeks along I had an ultrasound that showed a very healthy heartbeat. Thank you for any input.

As a nurse, I will tell you this: a fetus is tougher and more resilient than you can possibly imagine. They are designed to survive, no matter what. The series of events you describe would be no more than a blip on the radar screen of a healthy, viable fetus. Most spontaneous miscarriages occur because something goes wrong in the development of the fetus, rendering it no longer viable, which causes the body to expel it (miscarriage). Nothing you did hurt your child. Nothing you could have done would have saved it. I am very sorry for your loss. Your heartache will someday become a memory, I promise.

Doesn't sound to me like any of those things would have caused a miscarriage. Falls like that, even if on your belly, wouldn't have caused it. Yeast infections are common during pregnancy, and treated the same way you treated it. I would think your miscarriage was likely caused by a problem with the fetus itself--not viable, so it stopped developing and your pregnancy ended. Nothing you can do about that, and it will have no effect on future pregnancies. The only thing that you could possibly have and that you could possibly do something about is if your progesterone is insufficient to keep the pregnancy for 3 months (after 3 months, the placenta takes over). You might want to get your thyroid checked, to make sure that it's functioning normally. Because if it's not, then you would possibly have progesterone insufficiency as a result.

Some of those things could have a slight possibility of causing the miscarriage but usually it caused b/c the fetus is not developing correctly. So if you think about it it is better to miscarry this early rather than later in the pregnancy or to have a child with whatever problem it was having. I know it is tuff to think about it that way and you would never wish to experience this but, it happened you can't change it and their is no reason to beat yourself up about it! Just take good care of yourseld wait a little while and try again!! Good Luck!

I wish there was an accurate answer for what you'll always be wondering now. None of those terrible things would have likely caused you to miscarry. Even the strep B doesn't cause damage until the end of the pregnancy if left untreated.
You miscarried at a common time & luckily when things go very wrong for the baby our bodies naturally abort it, sometimes bodies don't & babies are born w/ serious defects. Try to consider yourself "lucky" to have a chance for another healthy pregnancy down the road.

O.K. help me here because I am a bit slow in understanding your statement: I know that most likely its nothing I did to cause it and they are pretty common. (a) you had EVERYTHING to do with it. The fetus was IN YOUR WOMB. You either did or failed to do things that ended up in a miscarriage. So YES YOU HAD ALL to do with it. Go talk with your doctor and find out what the tests show. He's the best source of good medical advice on this issue. (b) miscarriages ARE NOT PRETTY COMMON. If that were the case most of us would NOT BE HERE. Our mothers would have aborted us through miscarriage. So don't even go there. Miscarriages are the result of careless or accidental natal care. You fell down the stairs! Dah! You took drugs for this and that. Dah! Go see the doctor and yes accept responsibility for what happened. Don't try to point the finger at anyone else except YOU.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby, I know how hard it is. I also know that yeast infections can sometimes cause the baby to go into shock and that will sometimes cause a miscarry. I am happy to see that you read a little on it to know that the miscarries are fairly common especially with your first. If you have extra stress in your life that can also lead to having a miscarry early on. Again I am so sorry for your loss.

If the baby is well to begin with there is almost NOTHING you can do to cause the miscarriage. Don't worry. Don't feel guilty.
