No the chemical makeup of the drugs and how they effect the brain are different. They both act on your serotonin in the brain but usually anti depressants are SSRI which are reuptake inhibitors and I believe that ecstasy just causes large amounts to be released in the brain and also acts on the pleasure centers as a whole.

Ya know, Im not sure. I do think that teeth clinching is very common and could be caused by a number of things. Anti-depresants are supposed to subsidize the hormones and chemicals that are not bieng produced naturally in your brain. Extacy is a street drug made to increase the number of endrophins that your brain produces. Two very different drugs CAN have the same side effects. It stinks that you can not ask your doctor for obvious reasons : ) Get a teeth guard like the boxers wear so that you do not permanently damage your teeth. Good luck and I hope you feel better!!!!!

Maybe you messed yourself up from the ecstasy, but who knows maybe your are a pro with your ecstasy.

I am not a doctor, but I have heard, and you may want to research, that too large a dosage could make you do that. My only source is a girl who told me she was going crazy and pulling out her hair, which she never did before, when on a larger dosage of the medication. They prescribed a smaller dosage and she was better, according to her.

I believe I could argue just on terms of medication and how everyone is different that this particular drug may effect you this way and not others. I would assume a psycologist, physician, or chemist, could answer this question, in general and without quoting them, rather easily.

Antidepressants are similar, in that they increase the amount of serotonin the brain releases. I would say your past jaunts with ecstasy would be the reason you are having this particular reaction to the antidepressant, as I used to take antidepressants and had no problems like that.

no theyre not
but maybe you have a problem with clenching your jaw at night when you sleep? Talk to you doctor about it, its a very common problem. Also, tell whoever perscribes you your antidepressants. It might be a problem from the medicine. But no, antidepressants aren't like ecstacy.

It makes me wonder what kind of anti-depressants you are on? I'm on an anti-depressant (Prozac) but I don't think I clench my teeth.
I've never taken Ecstasy before so I can't say anything about that.
But I do know my anti-depressant doesn't put me in a happy place when I take it. It just helps my depression.

Not at all anti-deppressents block receptors in the brain,
ecstacy enhances them & stimulates the release of chemicals

First of all don't do ecstasy. You can get a soft night guard. They sell them at walmart. A dentist could make you a custom one. Ask your doctor for a prescription sleeping pill. They have good ones now that are not addictive. But seriously, DON'T DO ECSTASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have been taking ectasy, perhaps you are already suffering from malfunction of your brain. Your reactions might therefore differ from other totally healthy person.. Sorry!
