****The destruction in late 2005 of the tapes, showing harsh treatment of two terrorism suspects, is being investigated by the Justice Department, the CIA itself and by several congressional panels.
Bush stuck to the White House line that he personally did not know about either the existence of the tapes or their destruction until he was briefed earlier this month by CIA Director Michael Hayden.****
I want to believe him, but didn't he say the same exact thing about who leaked Valerie Plame's identity ?
I think he's pulling the old..."I don't remember" routine...
Plausible deniability ?...or do you think he's telling the truth this time ?

I'm really not sure. I think there's a LOT that Bush doesn't know because people keep him in dark. That makes it easy to deny knowledge at the top. However, that does not make a good leader. If something happens in a company, the CEO is ultimately responsible. That doesn't seem to happen with this administration.

He is quite out of touch with a lot. He can't know what is going on every minute of every day at the CIA or anywhere else. That said he must be held accountable for the incident, however, because as the nation's CEO he is accountable, even if not responsible for everything that goes on during his time in office. The CIA is part of the cabinet department known as Homeland Security which means that the head of the CIA reports to the Secretary of Homeland Security who reports directly to the President. Any CEO will tell you that it is his neck if one of his subordinates does something wrong. That is how it works.
Although he didn't know at the time of the incident he should have taken action the moment he found out about it. His credibility would have gotten a very big boost. Unfortunately this President is more into cover up and denial than finding the truth and, if necessary, firing someone for wrong doing.

Piano's have been made for taking part in captivating song, no longer for throwing !!! I want to think of on the advantageous attributes, issues that deserve honor and compliment..... no remember how badly you attempt to value the President,GW Bush has been in place of work for 8 years, and it took a great style of folk to get him into the White abode for 2 words. What became it you reported? the 1st woman Laura Bush would be ignored, besides , after the election of 2008

The issue is administration officials, possibly even Bush or Cheney themselves, testifying under oath.
""U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy ordered the hearing Friday over the objection of the Justice Department after lawyers raised questions about the possibility that other evidence also might have been destroyed.""
Face it folks, these guys are criminals. Stop being sheep and realize what your common sense is telling you is probably true--Bush and friends were never qualified for the job of serving and protecting America. They were simply a group of people with an agenda and now they are trying to cover their asses--just like they did for the 9/11 commission---" we have to testify in private, not under oath and be in the same room together for questioning".
I hope they all fry.

I, personally, don't believe him. This administration has been very closed and has not shared anything with the American citizenry. His 'I don't know..' comment is not a suprise. He doesn't appear to 'know' much of anything that goes on or is reported through major news outlets... and this man is the 'leader' of the 'free' world??? Help!
There have been so many coverups, in my opinion, that no intelligent and analytical person would ever take this administration at it's word. I believe that he is lying. How can a President be that far out of the loop, especially since this issue has been in the news since 2003 and he has been questioned on many occassions about the topic of acceptable methods of interrogation.

He may be telling the truth in a way, but only because he more than likely told the CIA to do whatever they wanted to do without telling him so he could have plausible deniability. Looking the other way doesn't relieve him of responsibility.

If he didn't know.. then the list of things he's "out of the loop" from is so large that he is an incompetent leader.
If he did know, he's an incompetent leader.
Either way doesn't look good for him.
