I worked with the cerebral palsy handicapped. One of them was blind...and who knows how many were deaf. They stick their tongue out a lot. It would be good to know they were doing this for a good reason.(The blind one didn't stick her tongue out...but was less handicapped that others there) Wish they'd find a way for the severely handicapped to communicate more easily.

Well the story doesn't actually mean in a literal sense that you can see with your tongue. There is a camera that is providing visual information that is then transmitted to your tongue via electrical impulses. Thus, you are using your tongue to sense and interpret information that is provided via a videocamera (I actually read the link before I answered).
This is not really different (except a different organ is being used) than blind people reading (usually thought visual) by braille (touch).
So it has some potential but how much waits further research.
By the way snakes gather lots of information via their tongues.
So as the article carefully describes it then yes I believe it's possible.

I did not see the program. Thank you for the link.

Can you give us a little more information? The show title or series,Frontline,Nova one of those.
Edit.I read the article, hopefully there's something to it.I'll wait for more information. The worlds been disappointed many times by claims like these.Years ago,it was claimed Autistic and Developmentally Disabled people could communicate on a keyboard through a care giver. That was started by a College professor.I think a 12 year old girl discredited it in a school Science project.Exposing it as nonsense.

I didn't see that- what was the program? I do know that sensory substitution is a reality- although the receptor types may be less suited to respond to the new input, the plasticity of the nervous system is such that it can adapt to interpret the signals.

Hello Denie

Yes, as a psychic information comes in sometimes from some strange angles.

You can hear, smell & taste colour as you can most things when tuned in.
