oh, man....making me think without the aid of coffee.........
Motorhead.....the energy behind the music is just amazing....they're fast and loud and kind of punk, yet not.....they're not afraid to put themselves out there lyrically and musically....also Lemmy is a god.......definitely one of the best

My all time fave is Iron Maiden because they were the first heavy metal band i had ever heard. Plus they've produced some kick-*** metal over the years. I know a lot say that "The Number Of The Beast" is their best album but i think "Powerslave" is. Every song on that album is a classic, especially "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner".

Chiodos.
They're screamo, and I don't know if you'd consider that the same thing as metal, but if it is, than they're my favorite band. I like them because the lead singer has a high voice, and I just......like their songs. I like There's No Penguins In Alaska and I Didn't Say I Was Powerful I Said I Was A Wizard.

Well I like most of those old metal bands a lot, but right now my favoreites are Neurosis, specifically their Times fo Grace and Eye of Every Storm albums, and Intronaut specifically their Null and The Challenger ep's.

Tool - the atmosphere of their songs, the musicianship and the lyrics. They also have sentimental value for me as they were probably the first really good band I listened to. Favourite albums are Lateralus and Undertow.
Meshuggah - the odd time signatures and Tomas Haake's insane drumming. Best album is probably Destroy Erase Improve.

Hey Darth.
Sabbath has GOT to be my favorite metal band.
If it wasn't for Tony Iommi plugging his guitar into the bass socket of his amp, every other metal l band out there wouldn't even be around.
Nobody does it better than the original, & you've gotta give credit where credit is due.
Sabbath rules.
