I think General Patreus got snubbed. The man is responsible for turning a bad situation in Iraq into a good one in less than a year.

People don't understand that Time Magazine's Person of the year is not an award. It goes to the person who Time considers to be the most influential on world events that year. Past recipients have included Adolf Hitler, Ayatollah Khomeini, and George W. Bush. Past recipients have also included Endangered Earth, the Computer, and the "whistle-blowers". For those who have mentioned George W. Bush or Condoleeza Rice, what have they done this year? Like it or not Al Gore and the scientists who were his co-awardees had more influence on world affairs than Bush or Rice.

There was an interview with the Editor of Time on NPR last night, and as he explained, while some may consider it to be and award of some sort, that is not the case at all. Gorbachev, and twice Stalin were named Times P.O.T.Y - it is just a recognition of a person who is changing policy, making a dramatic difference whether that be good or bad. It is just a reflection of the way the world stands today. And as he said, Putin has stabilized Russia and brought it back to the table of Wold powers where it hasn't been since the collapse of USSR.
Anyway, it was a good interview, and it made sense after he explained. Also, I agree with the other person who said at least it wasn't Bush.

I should have been the men and women of the military who are fighting over there. Time Magazine has put a man who has arrested political challengers, many people who have disappeared in the middle of the nite and selling nuclear materials and knowledge to the highest bidding country.
Good Choice Time Magazine. I wonder if Time Magazine did that so they could sell copies of their magazine in Russia

They put Stalin on there twice before as well. I think it is wrong. It gives glam to evil men. It's criteria is based on what person affectted positive change the most? For who, the Russians? So they can build up military might and start WWIII?
Time is a sleezy zine.

I think they're a little confused. In the interviews about it the Time Mag rep was saying that he didn't make it for good reasons, just for being influential. But then at the same time he was like, "he's doing amazingly positive things." ???? Huh. I think it should have been J.K. Rowling since she won the online poll.

i understand it but I don't support it fully. Time is a magazine that covers world politics. However, we have had Americans such as Al Gore winning a Nobel peace prize that we could have spotlighted.
