the only way that there would be life on mars is if it had the proper conditions to sustain life. Our earth is the perfect distance from the sun known as the "habitable zone". Its the perfect distance for us to sustain liquid water on our surface and for life ( life as in big mammals and stuff like us) to exist. As the sun gets older and bigger the habitable zone moves further and further away. In a couple of billion years when the sun gets older earth may no longer be in the habitable zone and mars may now be in it. I think that only then could life start there. Keep in mind however, that this life would start as small microbes and would take another billion or so years to evolve, but by that time we couldnt live on our planet ne more since the conditions would no longer be good for sustaining life.
Its a long drawn out complicated answer, but in general, if life ever DID form on mars, and if we were all still around to see it i think the greatest impact would be more media related then anything else.

Nothing. It only shows that such extreme condition may also support life. But not as superior as life forms like us.
By the way, the objective should not be getting life from Mars but bringing in life to Mars and check if tough earthly life forms could survive.

I think we would see if the microbes would grow in test tubes in a labratory here on earth and study the microbal life that was discovered, If you mean aliens as in creatures then there is no need to worry about such a thing cos its only in the movies we find those types of aliens,,

Supposing there were sapient life on Mars, or anywhere, AND they were willing to deal with us and not freak out and go catatonic, then we would 1) open an embassy 2) open a McDonald's.:)

Look at it this way, how easy is it to communicate with a bird? A flower? Logicly how would you even begin to establish a line of communication?
