I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old daughter. My goal is at least 1 year, but I will be happy when we achieve the 6 month mark. I figure we will wean when we are all comfortable with the idea.

Am currently nursing my 16 month old and we will stop when he wants.

s7e28w81- You sound completely uneducated about the benefits of extended nursing. Besides, I think breastfeeding for 6 weeks is ridiculous and completely inappropriate for what a baby needs.

I'm currently breastfeeding my first baby (8wks). We had some latching/pain issues in the beginning, and it seems he still doesn't latch correctly no matter how hard I've tried to correct the problem. Even though it's still not the most comfortable thing for me, I plan on nursing him for atleast a year and maybe longer, if it's important to him. I can stand a bit of discomfort for the best interest of my little guy.

I breastfed both of my children for 1 year. It was not always easy, I was determined to do it though! I had several blocked ducts, had mastitis once, had to supplement for one day w/ formula because I got soo dehydrated from a gastro illness (I lost 6 lbs of water weight that day!). I wondered many times if they were getting enough, are they latched on correctly, etc. In the end I was glad to have been able to do it and I will do the same with child #3, if we are blessed with one.

Until my babies didn't want to any more...stayed away from bottles completely and they fed until around 15 months. If you must give other liquids when they get older use a cup not a bottle and start when they can swallow on their own (about the same time you start feeding jarred foods).
Let your baby set the pace and don't be surprsed if the newborn wants to feed every 1 1/2-2hrs...they really need the feedings and it will help bring in the milk.

I breastfed for about six weeks with my daughter, who is three now. I wanted to breastfeed longer, but I went back to work almost immediately after giving birth, and wasn't able to pump where I worked (I was a bartender). Eventually she went from feeding at morning and evening feedings to not taking my breast at all. It broke my heart, but what can you do? I hope to breastfeed longer with this one, but I don't plan on breastfeeding for longer than three months.

i plan to breastfeed, but i haven't had my baby yet, so this is all jsut me hoping things will work out!
i hope i can last a year, but at the very least 6 months.
unfortunately, i have to go back to work when she'll be only 3 months... i've got some concerns about being able to pump enough & keeping my supply up after returning to work.
but i'll be working closely with a lactation consultant...
