My family is trying something different this year, we are giving no presents. We have cut back on the total number of gifts in recent years, and this year we are not giving any gifts. Do you think it would feel like Christmas in your family if there were no gifts?

The problem is that we have been conditioned since childhood to associate Christmas with all the wrong things (presents, Santa, plain gross consumerism...etc.) that it's easy to lose sight of what Christmas was originally about.

Even with the absence of presents, that should not prevent you from enjoying Christmas because contrary to popular belief--it's not about spending money and receiving presents.

No, but we have cut back too.
Though as the children get older, the gifts get more expensive so I'm not really sure.
My extended family, my brother and his family don't exchange gifts anymore.
So we buy for about 6 people. Though we end up spending about $800.

Yes. I get nothing but crap gifts anyway.

If I had my 'druthers, I would make a deal that only children younger than high school age get gifts. After that it is peace and goodwill to men type stuff....

Of course....Christmas is about giving presents to Jesus Christ for his Birthday...The way we do that is to give a gift or two to the less fortunate..That is how we celebrate Christmas....Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!!!

Well other than a religious factor..Gift is a thing for the soul.....it has been given to any one to please her/him.so,A hug and a kiss with true feeling can be a best present ever given to your loved ones...

Yes it would. We have forgotten the real reason for Christmas, Jesus's birthday.
