It seems like many people are so offended to have to say "Happy Holidays" to be courteous to those who do not celebrate Christmas. I just wonder, why does this bother you to have to accomadate for other people's beliefs? And for those of you who get offended when people say "Merry Christmas" to you, why does this bother you?

I'm just wondering!

It's just another thing to ***** about. We're in a society now that tries to be as politically correct as possible. We shouldn't have to feel obligated to use a PC greeting during the holidays, but that's how it goes. Soon, people will just say nothing to each other, just nod and acknowledge, so that nobody gets offended. Pathetic.

I think if people could just say "Happy Holidays" to those that don't celebrate Christmas, they would be a lot more open to the idea. But the problem comes when employees are told they can get in trouble for saying "Merry Christmas" to anyone at all. Like if someone comes in my store who I know is Jewish, I tell them "Happy Hanukkah" because I like to be specific with people. But I've been told I can get in trouble for that, because that may offend those that believe in only saying "Happy Holidays". I don't know if any of that made any sense, but that's the only time I have a problem with it. Otherwise, if I don't know the people, I'll say "Happy Holidays", it's not that hard.

I am not offended when someone wishes me a Happy Holiday, but I celebrate Christmas and am proud of my beliefs so I say Merry Christmas. My God is slowly being taken out of everything for those who don't beleive but they can't take him out of my life. Just bc I say it doesn't mean I am forcing my beliefs on them does it? If they are bothered by Merry Christmas, well I hate to say it but they just shouldn't talk to me then I guess. :0)

I dont get offended when I hear merry christmas. I dont say "happy holidays" because i feel i have to, but because i choose to. I am not christian, and i happen to know people of all faiths that celebrate holidays this season.

I saw a post earlier... apparently someone had a sign on there yard that said "happy holidays" but it had a red circle with a slash across it. I did take offense to that, because... why can i ONLY have a merry christmas? No need to be hostile about it, just wish us a merry xmas, not anti-holidays!!!

I'm with Melissa....I'm not of any faith, and say "happy holidays".....Christians (most) seem offended, because we are not "proclaiming and celebrating the birth of Christ"....but if I don't believe, then why should I "proclaim" it? I don't get offended when they say Merry Christmas, or anything else.

People will believe or not believe in what they want, and that is fine as long as its not hurting or infringing on anyone else. I don't think people should be pushy about it, or offended if we aren't "believers".. People need to relax and just live their own lives...quit worrying about everyone else.

If someone says Merry Christmas to me it doesn't bother me because I realize its offered in the spirit of kindness. That being said I usually say Happy Holidays to people out of tolerance to other's beliefs.

Because without Christmas, there probably wouldn't still be a holiday to celebrate. Although people say there are pagan festival from thousands of years ago, these are unlikely to still be remembered. So Happy holidays is annoying for people because people aren't bothered by 'Merry Christmas' anyway so there is no need to be courteous.

"Happy Holidays" shows respect toward others who may be celebrating different holidays than you do. It is also a recognition of the value of the true spirit of the holiday season as being one for all. Those who feign persecution because their permutation is not given priority are not interested in sharing, goodwill or tolerance - or if they are, only on their narrow terms.

Happy holidays is ok with me but I don't like anybody saying me 'Merry chrismas'. Will you like anybody saying 'Edd Mubarak' or 'Diwali Shubhesha'. it is offending I feel 'are you trying to convert me?' & other it's foolish to say that if you know other person doesn't celebrate christmas.

In India we don't ask anybody's religion publicly may be because there are mix Hindu, Muslim & Christians. Religion is private thing. It's simply bad manners.

I file these issues under W for "Who gives a crap?"

If a person is Christian, and somebody else says "happy holidays," then the proper response is "thank you! same to you!"

If a person is not Christian, and somebody says "Merry Christmas," then the proper response is "thank you! same to you!"

If a person is not Jewish, and somebody says "Happy Hanuka!" then the proper response is "thank you! same to you!"

Etc.
