I keep hearing this term when it comes to Obama. It baffles me as I haven't heard it mentioned for any of the other candidates. Seeing how none of the other candidates have ever been president directly (we all know Hillary helped her hubby) wouldn't you say they are all underqualified as the term qualified typically means you've had a vast amount of experience in that area? Was Bush Qualified? or is it that you must have a family member whose well connected? Perhaps its determined by knowing a fair amount of the elite that serves as the prequalifier?

I haven't heard this when referring to Obama. But if that is the definition of it, I don't believe that just because someone was Governor of a state that they are qualified.
Ronald Reagan wasn't qualified, the Bush's' were not qualified. I can think of many others also.
It's really funny that around every presidential election, the press is allowed to decide who is qualified and who isn't.
When some children are small, they say that they want to "grow up to be President of the United States." I thought we are a country that believes that anyone can become President if one is a citizen.
Apparently not, according to the press.

I too have been troubled by the fact that only Obama is being labeled as unqualified and inexperienced. How do you get experience at being president when you can only run for two terms. If the Bushs and Clintons are evidence of what an experienced president is like, I really don't think it matters at all. I think good judgment with a willingness to listen to the experts before forming an opinion is more important .
Speed P - If people are saying they won't vote for him because of the reasons you are giving, you can call it what you want, I call it prejudice. Black people have to vote for whites all the time. They can't say they will only address white issues. If it is an issue that needs to be addressed regarding our country it isn't a Black or White issue it is an American issue. You can't pass a law or program and put a race with it. It would be open to all Americans. If it benefits one more than another that only shows that the need was greater for that race. Even quotas which benefited minorities more was a quota for all races. The reason it helped minorities more was because whites had already meant their quotas. More whites were getting hired over blacks because of ignorance, hatred and prejudice.

It's just rhetoric aimed at demeriting Obama. There is no exact skill list for being President. Reagan was an actor! Many of our Presidents have came from different backgrounds. And when in office, one gets a lot of help and input. It's more of a "face" job than real decision making. The Chief of Staff, Senior Aides, Cabinet Secretarys - all lean in and make a group decision based both on policy (law) and politic (perception).
I was a Dem, and was for Obama, and while he is great, I just get tired of the Democratic platform. It will be much the same I fear as the past 8 years. I have been refreshed by Ron Paul and would suggest checking him out.
Happy Holidays!

If Bush was 'qualified', it was because of his daddy's influence. Of course, Obama is qualified. I am a Ron Paul supporter, and I get "he's not electable" all the time, even after his $6 million one-day fundraising blitz which broke all records. So, I know how you feel. People always say stupid things. I don't support Obama, but if I had to choose between Obama and Hillary, I'd choose Obama.

Some people feel he is not qualified to be elected President which is what that is saying; he meets the legal requirements to run for election. Personally don't like any one running right now-either too far left or too far right or just nuts. For speed_phreaks comment-I have heard some whit people say that won;t vote for him because they think he will favor minorities to much; racists possibly but at the same time I have heard a lot of black voters say they voting for hi because he is black-and that is just as racist. Racism still exists and is everywhere in every group and like prejudice will always be around the simple fact is we can and have controlled the degree and it is a better society for that. But painting whites as racist because they won't vote for Obama because he is black and not admitting that blacks voting for him because he is black is also just as racist is a dishonest thing to say. I have heard some people say men aren't voting for Hilliary Clinton because they are sexist-I am not voting for either as it stands I don't plan on voting for anyone but I totally disagree with the politics of those two and that is why I won't vote for them. Everything is not about race, gender, sexual preference and so on-sometimes you just don't like some body.

Is your question more accurately asked as "Will people not vote for Obama because he's black?"
The hard truth is, to some degree, yes. Not because of his skin tone but rather because people are afraid that he will show partiality to black causes while ignoring those of the majority. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just the way it is. I've heard ALOT of white people say just this.
Now, bring on the thumbs downs and the racist insults. I don't care. If you want a lie, ask your spouse.

Id say on the terms of obamas background, growing up and color.....if anybody is qualified its him....he came from nothing and now has shot up to the top running for presidential canidate and possible president!!!
Im sure the early 80's they wouldnt of used such nice terms describing a brotha running for president in the media...
Besides if he wins!!! There would be a huge chain reaction in the black communities.....finaly a real positive role model that just doesnt talk but can make a difference for all americans!
p.s. im a felon so i cant vote.....but im forced to pay taxes....does this make sense....?

I believe the qualifications are being at least 35 years old and a native born American. Obama qualifies. Those that say he doesn't should prove it or admit they are lying.

After Dubya's performance, we really shouldn't be saying that experience is a prerequisite for success in the White House.
