I got it from an Old Man's Child song from "What Malice Embrace" (that's where I got my new screenname).
"Pain is all where nothing is
Is nothing where pain is all"
I've pondered on those lyrics for quite a while.

I see where they are going with this, but I whole heatedly disagree. The premise being, if you have nothing you will naturally be in pain thus that is all you have, and you could say that in some cases. The way that I think you can't use it as a blanket statement is imagine nothing as an alternative to bad emotions. That point where you finally clear your mind and are able to clear unnecessary stresses and even pain. This can be a relieving and painless experience. Sometimes nothing can be quite relieving.

In fact now that I get to riffing on it the answer is certainly no as pain is a thing. Therefore if you have pain then you have something. Nothing is an absence of all things, pain included.

This is such a deep question to ponder on a Thursday morning. My first guess was this might be a song title, but you probably would have asked it in the R&P. I'll roll with no. When you have pain, it's something as opposed to nothing.

No, it sounds like something retarded someone made up so they could sound profound.

A lot of times I need nothing so I can clear my mind. However, if you are talking about absolutely nothing, that means there is no pain.

Based on my believes, we all have a soul, which in turn, enables us to feel. Therefore, where there is emptiness (or nothing rather), it is filled with the pain within us (created from occurances in our lives).

If this doesn't make sense, sorry. I'm on my 1st cup of coffee....lol

I believe someone who feels nothing lacks empathy for the world and themselves...this would definitely be someone in pain...to love oneself and feel whole is the optimum goal, then it's time to feed the world, baby!
