Ah, I-pods , god love 'em!

Mine crashes all the time! try plugging it into the wall to charge for a few hours.

And the next time you turn it on press the button in the middle to reset it and it should be fine. If not then send it off to get fixed.

Also always ensure that the I-pod is turned on before connecting it to your computer as this can cause issues.

How long have you waited for it? Sometimes when the battery runs out, you have to give your iPod a minute or two of charging on your dock before it will sync.

Also try charging it with an external charger.

If it still doesn't work, I'd ask how old your iPod is. It could be that the battery got so low it failed. Not very likely, but there is a chance. If that is the case, you'd have to pay Apple to replace the battery.

If its stuck like that and not coming up with anything once charged for at least 2 hours, try pressing and holding the MENU AND MIDDLE BUTTON TO RESET IT. Then see what happens wait until you see the apple icon. You will not lose anything just restarts your ipod. Happened to me.

is it a new nano? I've heard the new ones are having problems just as you described. if it's new, get it replaced.
