Bonjour,
Just to clarify - a dimension is a just an parameter used to describe a state - the four physical dimensions are length, breadth, height and time. I hope we're on the same page so far!
In mathematics, you can have as many dimensions as you like and you don't need to call them anything special or link them back to a physical world.
In physical space there are hypothetical dimensions beyond the standard four - the fifth being related to gravitional influence.
Interestingly, there have been attempts to map 4and 5 dimensional shapes by using non-Cartesian geometry - one such 5 dimensional object is the Hypersphere. Pretty crazy, eh?
The main point is, there's no need to worry about the real nature of the 5th dimension, all dimensions are just parameters used to define a state!
That's all :)

What you are describing is something Physics does think about. Its called the "Many worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics.
Here's a quick explanation from a physic-teaching website.
"According to this interpretation, whenever numerous viable possibilities exist, the world splits into many worlds, one world for each different possibility (in this context, the term "worlds" refers to what most people call "universes"). In each of these worlds, everything is identical, except for that one different choice; from that point on, they develop independently, and no communication is possible between them, so the people living in those worlds (and splitting along with them) may have no idea that this is going on."
While higher dimensions may have something to do with everything, I don't think this is quite what a "5th dimension" is all about...
But I'm just a nerd who reads science magazines and stuff.

Sounds good to me...Ive thought of seven dimensions...although...it was a while ago and i only can think of six. My idea of a fifth was the same as your idea. I think we r constantly moving through the fifth dimension..not by our will of course. The thing that cannot be comprehended is physically a direction that is moved..but, the idea of what happens when you move can be comprehended..hence the idea of the fifth. Hope that helps

The fifth dimension is the STATE itself.
The first three are for position in space. The fourth one is time while in space. The fifth one is the state while in space-time.
That state can be a boolean(true or false, matter and energy)
or a physical state (phase, temperature, energy).

my concept of 5th dimension of life is a place where we will be going when we died. a place where our existence will not occupied space and controlled by time.
