If we get rid of income tax, then sales tax and other items would be taxed. If you lower Federal tax then the slack is usually taken up by the state by state tax increase. Do you trust your state to handle these funds. I live in a State with a Democratic Gov, and it scares me to think of it. The people running my State are all crooks who like to pocket money, and they never go to jail your have to pay back the money taken from the State. This is no good plan.

sfavorite711 I was born in this State and I don't see why I should leave just because of your brilliant idea. State tax is already higher than income tax, and I am telling you if you want to see a slush fund for employees, giving it to State workers that is the best way I know. NO I'm not leaving. Why should I? I'n not a whiner, I'm a warner! Let's make sure we clearly understand the facts about where candidates stand, and dig deep before voting.

Then I would say it's time for your state to elect someone trust worthy wouldn't you? Why should the entire nation be paying for your bad choices to elect an incompetent state government? Eliminating the entire IRS is a great plan seeing how so much of our federal tax money is not being accurately reported and the spending is way out of hand. It's become a slush fund for our federal government employees, and executive offices...
This way if you as a State want to have a Democratic/Liberal State you may tax the heck out of your residence and have every step you make taxed and spent on trees and Lolly pop studies if you want and other states can do what they choose.. Great idea as far as I'm concerned..
To be honest Fair tax issue should be the biggest and most important issue we should be looking for in our next President. But we are too tied up looking into religious beliefs and Hollywood endorsements. Kind of foolish if you ask me when the MAIN ISSUE is HOW we are going to be governed

It's much easier to move to a better state, or even better, vote for the proper people to govern your state... Than trying to get legislation passed Federally, that may be great for California, but terrible for Alaska, or any other state in the union. I do see your worries however, good question!
PS: I also think corruption is easier to combat at the state level, than at the federal level, and people can be held more accountable. Every Federal tax dollar you submit, 2/3'ds is just plain wasted, and the other 1/3rd goes to interest. I get this little tidbit from Reagan's Grace Commision report, and was appalled when I understood it.

the problem is, we have a federal government that cant handle the job..........
the IRS is nothing more than a private police for the federal reserve, and the federal reserve is recognized as a PRIVATE corporation and has NO affiliation with the federal government, other than to act as Private Bank that prints its own money out of thin air and Loan it to our government to fund programs and we return the money back plus interest, so its fiat money with no backing, and no checks and balances....so the idea of this country collapsing with no income tax is absurd, as long as you know where the money is going......we are fully capable of operating without an income tax......we did it before 1913......the only thing that changed is, we suddenly became interested in fighting wars and policing the world....hmmmm maybe thats where our tax dollars are going.
after the turn of the 20th century, all these social programs were introduced to make us become dependent on them...and thats where we are today.....wagging the dog.

When did we stop paying Social Security tax, Medicare and State tax? My pay stub shows that I pay all those taxes and my local taxes are still going up. If you are talking about your property taxes, take a close look at your tax bill, you will find that most to all of that tax goes to you local government. If you don't like those taxes, go to them. If you mean your state income tax, mine has gone up steadily, it had too, in response to the Feds decreased contribution. Democrate or Republican, states need tax revenue to survive and they will get it from somewhere.

I do want the states to have more control. If I don't like the way my state is run, the people that get elected and the taxes it is easy for me to move to another state. It is much harder to move to another country.
Social security, medicare and other social policies should be moved to the states...if you don't like the programs in your state read the comment about moving above.

I think it's interesting the number of people who want more power placed in the hands of those where there is less focus. It's obvious fewer people get to know there state legislatures and pay attention to there local candidates, for some they want these people where fewer people are making the decisions to havce more power.

The Fair Tax should become law. If you want to know how much you would be paying, go to www.fairtax.org. They have a calculator that you can run some numbers on. One of the great things it does is increase purchasing power.

The chance of eliminating the IRS in the near future is .0000.
What ever tax system we have, we will need enforcement and collection. The so called "FairTax" would not eliminate the IRS. It would only rename it and it would probably increase it in size. Enforcement of a national sales tax isn't as easy as the fairtaxers want you to believe.

We have a "Republican" governor here in Georgia and our taxes are ridiculous. We need to try something new because SS is not gonna sustain me at retirement.
I need to pay less and will vote for a candidate that has never voted for a tax increase. Can you guess who??
Yeah, I'm one of the millions of spammers!! LOL!!!
