What many of the people have said would be true if you had a brand new car - however, your car is 17 years old.
As an engine gets older, and more worn, the octane requirements go up for that particular engine - if you notice a difference using higher octane fuels, contunue to use those fuels.
This is because as someone pointed out, Octane number is really just an antiknock number. However, there are knock sensors in your engine that will retard the ignition timing, and add extra fuel to limit the amount of knock - with higher octane fuel, it will resist knock on it's own, thus not retarding the ignition timing, and not dumping the extra fuel, and with that you'll see improved performance and fuel mileage.

Your owner's manual specifies regular unleaded because that's what the computer fuel injection is designed and calibrated to. Premium will not be burned properly and may leave deposits in the engine according to the experts. Here are the top tier gasolines recommended for your car:

Why switch? If your car is recommended to use only regluar gas, then the premium will not do anything for it.
"premium" gas is not any cleaner or better. It just resists engine knocks better. High performance engines (like high compression engine or turbo engines) require high octane gas. If your car is recommended to use regular gas, it will DO NOTHING with the extra octane. PERIOD.
Gas company love the fact that calling their gas "super" or "premium" give it the image of better QUALITY.
NOT!
Save your money and next time spend it on better motor oil (synthetic) or something that really makes a diff.

If your car runs fine on regular gas there is no reason to shell out the extra money for the super-premiums. But if you want there's no reason you can't put the expensive gas in your car. It won't hurt anything. It won't help anything either.

The best gas you can get is the cheapo brands. More people use it and it runs thru sooner. The expensive gas lays in the ground longer absorbing water. Aside from "boutique gas", which depends on local laws, gas is sold on the common market. One's the same as another.

IF YOU ARE USING REGULAR, I WOULD SUGGEST USING THE MID GRADE FOR A WHILE. YOU WILL NOTICE A DIFFERENCE, AND THE ADDITIVES IN THE MIDGRADE WILL CLEAN YOURENGINE A LITTLE BIT AND AFTER A WHILE YOU WILL NOTICE BETTER FUEL MILEAGE. I'M NOT SAYING 40 - 50 MPG, BUT IT WILL IMPROVE AND YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE THE CAR MAY RUN A LITTLE BETTER.
