Hello friends,
I'm using 849NU plan of MTNL Broadband since 1 month. Now I'm getting about 185 KB/s speed for normal(FTP) downloads but all P2P softwares including torrent can go to maximum of 25 KB/s.
I've opened ports for all these softwares.

Please tell me if change in configuration of router will sort things or this the same thing with all of you?

Thanks

Speed of torrent downloads depends not only on your internet connection but also the speed that people who are seeds and peers allow to upload at.

If all the people who have a file are sharing it at a max upload speed of 5 KB/s, then the fastest it will arrive to you will be at that speed or less depending on who else is downloading it at the same time.

Many mention some of the causes it "may" be.
Normally Torrent Software use ports 6881-6889. Some companies may limit bandwidth on this ports. If a person read a little about the Verizon Wireless card they will see that they also not like P2P.
This link list some of the ISP's and how they handle P2P/Torrents. I did not see yours in the list. But, this give an idea of what I saying.
http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs#United_States_of_America
In the USA I am limited to Charter Communications or Dial-up (DSL in not available in my area, but, is about a mile in either direction, Hmmm?) If, you look in the list for Charter you see they may limit bandwidth for high traffic volume. Which may include "ALL" ports. In my Torrent Software (Deluge) I use ports 49161-49169 and remember to open these ports in my Firewall.
If, a person have their upload set high I usually get a "whole" album of music in less than 5 minutes with my download speed as hight as 450 Kb/s if and when enough people connect. I have noticed many may have their upload set for 300 Kb/s.
Also, be sure you "seed" back into the "swarm". A person who gets and does not share (Leech) may receive a lower feed rate.

I thought I had this in my favorites and had to go find again;

This may help if you need to configure your router. BE VERY SURE you read and learn before you just start clicking and changing things.

I did not have to configure my Router. It seems everything goes fast for myself. Changing my Ports did have some effect. I should have clarified this when I gave the link about the router. But, I thought it may be something you can consider. I would try other alternatives and try the router config as a last resort.

I had the same problem. I even tried to reconfigure the router but nothing much happened. Well if your FTP and HTTP transports are alright, no worries. But p2ps work are dependent on others. I mean if you have enough seeders for the file you want you definitly will get a good speed Provided the seeders have a good connection as well.
Anyways, try reconfiguring the software itself for best results...
Good luck:D

Also, its not advertised, but ISP's have started limiting the speed of P2P downloads. If your getting the same max on all P2P programs, its probably because of an ISP limit.

You should ask them, they should own up to it, but if they say they don't it doesnt mean they are telling the truth.

Are you sure the settings for the application you use is set to a max download speed?
It may be set to 25kb/s when it should be set to unlimited.
Torrents can usually be downloaded as fast as the supplier sets their upload speed.
