Nice try. You don't lose velocity when you picth 50-60mph on every pitch! His fastball tops out at 68MPH! Knuckleballers are pitchers that can pitch effectively into their late 40's just because of the lack of strain on their arm. To say Tim Wakefield used performance enhancing drugs is like saying Pete Rose knows nothing about gambling.

Those knuckle balls are real heaters!!! The famous knuckle baller, Phil Niekro, pitched until he was 48, and recorded a shutout at age 46. That was back in 1985. A totally different era and not questioned from a steroid or HGH perspective.
At age 41, Wakefield is old, but not too old to throw knuckle balls without suspicion of longevity due to performance enhancers!!!

it's hard to lose velocity when you throw like 50 mph. The way Wakefield pitches, the knuckleball, it will not hurt his arm as much as a speedy pitcher, like Mark Prior.

The only reason he hasn't lost any velocity is because his main pitch is a knuckle ball. It has no stress as any other breaking ball does on the shoulder. 75 mph isn't all that hard to throw if you're a big leaguer. I'm sure he could throw faster but doesn't need to. I don't see him having to use steroids to compete. The guy usually only throws every 5th day anyways but sometimes every 3rd day but even at that, his knuckle doesn't put much stress on the shoulder.

Velocity? Knuckleballers don't use velocity. If he did use steroids it was for recovery and longevity not velocity.

It's quite possible - I hear he topped 60 on the gun a few times last year.

You don't need any outside help to throw a 50mph knuckleball. You are correct, he has been around 75mph on his fastball and 50mph on his knuckleball for many years.
