Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, God the Son.

The angel said to them,

"Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

(Luke 2:10-14)

With love in Christ.

The reason for Christmas isn't actually the birth of Jesus Christ. That was what the Catholic church changed it to. It was originally celebrated by the German pagans. Which predates Christianity by thousands of years. It was to celebrate the tree of life (know now as the Christmas Tree). For a long time the Catholics banned the celebration of the tree of life, because it had nothing to do with their god. The pagans did this yearly ritual is hopes the the plants would start to grow back. It was considered a time of rebirth. The mistletoe was a symbol of fertility. the wreath was to protect against evil spirits, and many people would exchange gifts with one-another.

The birth of Jesus though most of us forget that that's what it is all about. People get so caught up in the holiday season with all of the busy stores, the decorating the house and christmas parties and stuff we forget that christmas is really about a little babe that had been born in a little stable in dirty manger with a bunch of animals present. Not the place that a king should be born but he was and that is what christmas is all about. The birth of Christ!

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Christmas is a contraction of Christ-Mass (from the old english Cristes Maesse). This is in reference to the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It's actually an interesting story to read through.

I don't think anyone knows anymore. It is supposed to be a time of celebration for the birth of Jesus Christ and spending time with your family. But now the meaning is buying the newest video game so your kid doesn't throw a fit on christmas and cuss you out. While you go take a shot of whiskey and smoke a cigarette.

By remembering that Jesus Christ was born this day ( many years ago) to save the world from sin. We must rejoice and feel the air with love.
