Was it all those dark-skinned heathens who inhabited the then-beautiful North American continent, or their foremothers and fathers?

First of all Miss, excuse me, I d not mean to offend, but to understand - BUT at first sight, which means WHAT FIRST PENETRATES one's brain, your question seems to imply something that makes me question of you. And that is : dark-skinned "HEATHENS"? Do you know the definition of Heathen. It id any person of no religion, culture, and deep because of these deficits, into the state of total un-enlightenment. Are you speaking of humans or mammals and reptiles, or singled-celled animals or any life form which may have existed before the ancestors of man and the closest to homo sapien, which we are.
If I am to answer your question ignoring " all those dark-skinned heathens" - then I would say; Nature itself, the lush wilderness, which in time would have given opportunity for life to all living creatures, man being the result of evolution and natural selection, as to exist and survive.
It is theoretical, but I would find much possibility in this : that human life, first began in Africa, then through further transformations according to the needs for its survival, may have wandered through-out the world. However by the time this continent, was discovered, (as if without its' discovery) it would not have existed, (Ha! What presumptuousness!) different tribes of Native Americans. Indian. And these people had a rich culture, their own beliefs and religion. They were FAR from being NOT enlightened.
Heathen to me is a derogatory word to me, which sounds as
someone who through all attempts remains resistant of learning, of acquiring faith in a religion, toward spiritual growth, and remains stubbornly and dense of mental capacity as to surface from an abominable condition of being.
It also very heavily implies that such a person, the heathen, is never to to find worth, unless he adopts a religion imposed upon him, by conquerors, so as to free him from his obscured condition.
And we know that imposing anything, unwanted, inconvenient to their survival, totally alien to him (the so-called Heathen) in order to "civilize" him, into an accepted propriety founded by the conquerors : whether it would be Religion, culture, or a supposedly superior state of being, All dictated by the conquering aliens is simply WRONG!
The human natives of the whole of the American continent had a culture of their own. And these cultures were rich of
evidence which described all these people worthy of life, in their own life styles, before they were invaded and subjugated into near extinction, by their supposed superior.
So I will attempt to for go the word heathen, as being loosely
written or perhaps ignorantly meant.

I don't understand your comments? Why do you call them dark skinned heathens? Do a little research on the tribes of North America and the Europeans that came there. The natives washed, the Europeans did not. Just because the all mighty Europeans were considered more advanced - in their own tiny minds - does not mean they were better than the peoples who were already here. It was those heathens as you cal them that saved the Europeans butts when they first came here because they didn't even know how to survive on their own.

Actually I don't consider anybody to be native to North America except for the animals that live here. But since we're talking about people...

All inhabitants of North America came across the Bering Sea on the land bridge that connected North America and Asia. As a result, they too were immigrants. The only difference between them and the settlers that came here in the 1600's was they had been here for a lot longer.

The Indians are the real natives of North America and dark-skinned heathens is a little racist. Dark-skinned heathens inhabited the then - beautiful North American continent cause they were here FIRST!

I think that there were people here prior to the natives crossing from Asia. There are human prints alongside of dinosaur tracks in Texas and there have been other finds to imply that there may have been an advanced race here prior to the native Asians coming.

Hum...the animals and the Vikings, Leaf Erikson was the first to set foot here, although he did not stay, so, I believe the Vikings are the true* Native Americans, the other so called "Native Americans" settled here, after Leaf had explored the area, way long after, I think 99.9% of the people here need a history lesson!

Guess I miss your distinction.
The foremothers/fathers of the 'heathens' were their ancestors, thus both equally 'native'.

I would say a true native is anyone born in N.A. whose ancestors arrived by walking (as opposed to arriving by ship).

Well, if you go too far back you could say that everybody's native to Africa, so that leads nowhere. I think the common modern definition of Native American is as accurate as anyone's gonna get.
