Yes it can be saved. You just have to get a 20amp male plug. You can get these at Home Depot or any Ace hardware. All you have to do is hook up the wires to this new cord. Strip back the shilding and you will see 3 wires. green, white, black. Take the black to the copper looking screw on the plug. Take the wite to the other one and the green to the middle screw. tighten it all up and put the cord cover on and you are done.
The only thing to make sure of is if you can still pull the fridge out enough to disconnect the cord.

RE:
Replacing refrigerator power cord....?
Is that even possible? Its a really nice pretty new fridge, the only problem is someone cut the power cord in half....can it still be saved? What need to be done and is it like a universal cord that needs to be replaced?

You can replace the cord yourself just go to a electrical parts store and buy a 6 or 8 ft 12/2 with ground cord...then attach it to the refrigerator where the old one connected at...Very simple to do ....If you do not know why cord was cut dont call an electrician call a refrigerator repairman to come work on it, if you feel it would need to be checked before plugging it in...

I agree with the others. How and why was the cord cut? A refrigerator does not have a 20 amp plug on it as one guy said. They have 15 amp cord sets. I would be very leery of plugging that thing in.

Turn off the fridge, turn off the breaker and unplug the fridge. Remove the panel at the bottom of the back of the fridge and follow the cord to where it's attached. Remove the cord and attach the new one, which you can make from an appliance extension cord. That is the heavy, flat, gray one. Cut off the female end and strip back the insulation. Do not use any other type of cord and only rewire this if you have previous wiring experience!!!! Finally, plug the fridge back in, turn on the breaker & lastly, turn the fridge back on.

Yes the power cord can be easily replaced, but the bigger question is why was it cut in-half?
I suspect the compressor or starter relay has a problem and the previous owner didn't want someone else to try and use the fridge until it's been repaired. Generally these kind of problems will trip the circuit breaker/blow a fuse if plugged in.
Don't risk it if you don't know what you're doing.

Put a new male end on it. Hardware store should have one. take in the old cord and they will hook you right up. Easier than trying to replace the whole cord.

I would caution you to have the fridge checked out thoroughly first because most appliance specialists cut the cord to units that they think shouldn't be used. If this fridge has a grounding problem then you could fix the cord and plug it in and get the jolt of your life.

I would get an electrician to check it out first as the power cord may have been cut as the unit could be faulty....
