Tim Burton's Batman movies were much more faithful to the spirit of the original comic and TV show...dark but still comical. While Nolan's vision is dark and precise and entertaining, he doesn't add any sense of whimsy to these movies at all.
And Danny Elfman's Batman theme is on the best pieces of score work of all time, IMHO.

Nolan's and here's why. Nolan stated that he didn't want the theme to be a hero's theme right away. If you notice in Begins, the theme never hits the highs until almost the very end. The theme actually was a character of the film. In The Dark Knight, it is rumored to be much better because Batman is a full fledged hero now. The Burton version (while awesome for its time) doesn't add that dimension.

I grew up on Burton's so im partial to that. But I think Nolan's movies are better done. More story and stuff, I am really looking forward to The Dark Knight. But it's hard for me to pick because I like both so much and Burton's Batman is what I grew up on. Overall Nolan is probably the better version though, as far as movie making and Batman stories are concerned.
If Burton actually knew anything about Batman or read the comics, they could have been a lot better. Burton has said time and time again he doesn't read comics. He was going to direct a superman movie in the late 90's with Nic Cage as the man of steel, I think that would have been interesting.
