and it shut down on me this mornin totaly dead worked fine an hour later like there was nothing wrong at all

black smoke is a sure sign of getting too much gas witch will cause the engine to run rough and stall out check out fuel system.

Most likely you are burning oil. Try getting an oil change. If it still throws black smoke than it maybe carbon build up like the other guy said
