We remember some facts better because they actually relate to us or because we can invision them relating to us. The ones we tend to forget usually hold no interest to us and who we are. We don't see how they can actually relate to us or be useful to us. We actually do not forget these facts though. They are simply set aside in our brains. You someday may be in a situation where the fact that you once found not important is now important and you remember it. A lot of people call this dejavu. Sometimes it is hard to recall the fact because we have not thought about it for sometime but eventually we are able to bring it back.

The facts we remember forever are those facts which really have impact on us, like parallel experiences on the fact, thoughts, feelings, and all of that stuff. The facts we don't remember are those facts which aren't really relevant or in other words, USELESS to us, or the facts we learn when we're forced to learn them, for example, the facts we learn at school (lets say in science) all those physics and chemistry things and facts seem so useless to us that the next day you dont remember a thing. Well, yeah, that's it.
