OH yeah im gonna buy the Q6600 and surely overclock it to 3.5Ghz so should'nt that take care of the speed thing?? and hence go for the 512MB card with ddr2??

256 will be enough
Those 512 are usually marketing gimmick, and they comes with slower ram.

256 ones are GDDR3 lol. They are faster. You need faster RAM, not just more ram

clogging up your VRAM while the GPU cant access it fast enough will create bottleneck

Under condition that requires 512MB, the 8600GT GPU is going to struggle anyway, so you won't want to load it under such condition. The 512MB ram will remains un-utilize

256 with DDR3 will be the better option. The ram is faster, gets processed faster, therefor less is needed. Many people underestimate the need for fast ram, and automatically assume that MORE ram is better.

Have you considered the 3850 from ATI? I just ordered one yesterday...

Nope, you're only overclocking the processor, but your slow ram will limit how fast the information gets to the GPU to be processed. Don't let yourself be tricked by the "512". If you don't believe us, go read up on sharkeyextreme.com or anandtech.com or tomshardware.com for further comments, reviews, and motherboard comparisons.

LMAO...you don't have a clue what you're doing. First of all, get rid of the 8600 and get an 8800GT instead..MUCH better for the money. Second...no way in hell you're gonna get your Q6600 to 3.5GHz...can i please see the cooling method you're using? Oh that's right...you're just trying to make your e-peen bigger...and i highly doubt you even know how to overclock if you can't even figure out what video card is best...and don't tell me you're gonna use a software program to overclock or you've just lost all credibility.

SLI 8600s is a huge WASTE when a single 8800 series card crushes them.

get the two at 512 mb. The speed increse from ddr2 to ddr3 is negligible if your system is good enough and the extra ram will help.
