I am looking to purchase a wood stove from someone but am unsure if it will even work. The problem is the flue comes out the back of the stove and is about 6" higher than where it will attach and vent out my wall. Can I use a bend to go DOWN then vent out or will that create a backdraft and not vent the smoke correctly? Thanks in advance!

it will work fine.
The flue is just a block. The vacuum caused by the hot air going up the chimney will still pull out all the smoke.

Hello John:

Unless you can move your exiting flue connection, it is dangerous to install a flue with a negative vent. Even if it has a draft inducer motor, it should always slope upwards away from the stove. with a draft inducer fan, you can get by with a level flue, but only for a run of less than 48 inches. Your codes in your area may be different, but a negative draft can cause leakage into the living space, and smoke and more dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can enter your home.

Move the flue or find a different stove. Perhaps you can trade this one to someone else on Craigslist for a flue that will work better for your situation.

I would make sure the chimney has excellant upward draft which also can vary pending weather conditions. I wouldn't suggest in making the setup.

in theory you should not have less than a 45 degree angle on your stove pipe...in all honesty i would look for a stove better suited for your set up...
