I totally agree. It is a ALOT of wasted money. Exp. in times like these when energy prices are so high you spend half your holiday budget just getting to the mall. I still gotta do the song & dance because of my parents and have a little brother. But when I have my own family I dont think we are going to submit to all the b.s. Save the money and just take a trip somewhere not give out ugly sweaters to my 2nd cousin's brothers girlfriend....

Here in the city where I live it gets very crowded because i am near the mall but all the streets are already crowded and People get so pressured and tired and grouchy. The whole thing is a battle of survival for me. I just want to stay home and hideout until it is over ,unfortunately Will not be doing that since mother makes a big deal out of it. She collects Santa clause she has about 50 of them. I have to bring my son over and she wants his picture taken on Santa's lap. At least my grandmother won't be there, she makes 50 cakes and deserts and gets her feelings hurt if you don't eat it. The school already had a cookie exchange and I had to bake cookie and I ended up eating a ton fo that right when i needed to drop 10 pounds. This is a pagan food orgy celebration. the only good thing is the kids have fun and some poor people get help. I guess some people enjoy it the way it should be done without preasures and obligations. I am going to be nice and get a good attitude starting now because I am going to pray.

I love Christmas and everything about it, I was a single mom w/3 kids, we didn't always have a lot of money, but we spent time together, decorating, making ornaments, baking, etc. We started traditions that have lasted all these years and now my grown grand children are doing them . As finances improved it did become more commercial, but happily my kids enjoyed the old traditions so much that they kept them.
And no present that some one takes the time and expense to get me is "crappy" that attitude is why you don't like Christmas,, I suggest that next year, you take what ever money you spend on others and get your self something then YOU will have a nice Christmas.

It can be the biggest commercial scam if you let it be. My family is quite large and we decided not to go crazy with presents a few years back. We just draw names for presents and buy one present. Just enjoying time with family you get to see once a year is nice, I just buy a present for my mother and am happy if I get a bit of cash to put towards my tuition.

Well kids are kids,
and More likely they would be yours.
So it is your job to buy them at least something they want for christmas.
If you have a computer obviously your NOT poor,
so please don't complain about that.
But in-laws are hell to buy for,
you either never know or just to confussed on which present to buy.
But you don't always have to be so expensive with gifts.
and if they aren't appriciative then there not worth your time, and or money.
